Course description
This course will go over the topic surrounding maternal death and the different factors that lead up to that. We will specifically target the 3 delays leading to maternal death in rural areas and provide ways to help combat these issues. You will also learn a variety of new terms that you can apply when educating mothers on this topic.
The first lesson will be an introduction to maternal death and the CDC definition. We will also go over statistics related to maternal death, specifically in rural areas, and new terms which can be applied in future lessons.
The second lesson will go over the first delay of maternal death, which are socioeconomic and cultural factors. We will go over the factors leading to a woman deciding to not reach an EmOC facility and give birth at home instead. This will allow students to understand precisely where the issue lies and come up with prevention methods further than what we have provided.
The third lesson will go over the 2nd delay associated with maternal death, which happens to be accessibility to facilities. Mothers often find that reaching a qualified EmOC facility is too far away, takes too much time, or costs a lot of money. This leads to them giving birth at home, leading to various complications and thus maternal death. In this lesson, we will go over ways in which we can prevent this.
The fourth lesson will go over the 3rd delay of maternal death, the Quality of EmOC care. This is an essential factor to look at because it improves the credibility and dependence on these facilities. Improving factors on a hospital-level can be a lot simpler and have a lot of solutions and methods to improve the care.
